The South Carolina junior leads Roanoke Country Club to its 4th straight team title.

DALEVILLE - After leading her Roanoke Country Club squad to its fourth straight Roanoke Valley Golf Hall of Fame women's team title Sunday at Ashley Plantation, Meredith Swanson finally got to take a sip of the champagne championship toast teed up for the winning team members.

"Yes, now that I've turned a big 21, I finally get to offically partake in a swig of the wine," an excited Swanson said.

Then she broke into laughter and confessed: "For a couple of years ... it's been sort of unofficially."

Meanwhile, once again the rest of the field had to confess again: They can't touch the long-bombing blonde yet.

Swanson, who played on a University of South Carolina squad that finished fifth in the NCAA Championship last month, put the locks on her third straight and sixth HOF individual crown in the past eight years, firing a final-round 2-under-par 71 to win by nine shots over on fast-coming Lyndsey Hunnell of Ashley Plantation.

Swanson's 36-hole total of 5-under 139 broke the tournament scoring record of 141 of Dot Bolling in 2006.

"Wow, I didn't know that," Swanson said. "Awesome!"

Swanson, who plans to go professional next summer after graduating from college, said she does plan on being back for the HOF again next June. She wants to keep stamping her name all over the HOF record book. Her six titles rank second to Bolling's eight crowns.

"I figure I'm going to look back some day and be able to cherish these moments â? be able to tell my kids and grandkids and just let them see my name in the book or on a plaque," Swanson said.

Swanson, who led Bolling by six and Hunnell by seven coming off a first-round 68 at Hidden Valley, never had to break a sweat Sunday. While Bolling faded to a final-round 81, Hunnell recorded two eagles and four birdies in posting 73.

"There was no chance of catching Meredith â? impossible," Hunnell said. "I'm really happy with how I played. I've got to stay away from out of bounds and lost balls."

Roanoke Country Club's Meagan Board, 16, shot 76 to tie Bolling for third at 155.

"I could have done so much better," Board said. "I had so many three-putts and lipouts. But it's great having Meredith on the team. It takes away a lot of stress."
